After many years of involvement in the sport of boxing, he moved from California back to Oregon, his home state. He was looking for a place to train, just to stay in shape. He began his karate training under Sensei Robert Graves, now 6th Dan, and Chief Instructor of the Northwest Region (Oregon, Washington & Idaho) and continued his training with Graves Sensei until he moved back to California in 1984. He has continued his training under the instruction of Hidetaka Nishiyama, 9th Degree Black Belt, located in Los Angeles, CA. and other of the top karate instructors in the world. Sensei Nishiyama is the foremost JKA Shotokan Karate Instructor in the world today.
During his many years of karate training, Mr. Fitzpatrick has attended numerous schools, seminars and summer camps. Mr. Fitzpatrick was successful as a competitor from 1963 to 1972 in many Local, State, Regional, and National Karate Tournaments until he withdrew from competition in 1972. He has been a frequent judge and in national competitions and is a highly respected karate clinician.
Fitzpatrick Sensei has recently moved to Hillboro, Oregon but his legacy continues with the JKA Traditional Shotokan Karate Club-Sacramento under the instuction of Sensei John Leggett, one of Sensei Fitzpatrick's longtime students.
